nota bene

Many people are surprise that I have never been to Nota Bene (@NotaBeneToronto) but apparently I am not the only one, Amy (@lu_amy7) haven't either so we decided to take advantage of the Dinning Date Night deal $10 for 30% off entire bill including alcohol (it's FREE to join)

We arrive about an hour early since we were so hungry and couldn't wait for our resevation time, so they suggested us to sit at the lounge area instead of the dinning room which we were fine since it was much brighter which is a lot better for picture taking =P

They carry my fave local winery : Megalomaniac

Crispy Duck Salad $15
~ Sumac-Dusted Green Papaya Slaw, Cashews
Frankly there was more coriender than the papaya slaw but the duck was definetly crispy and flavorful
and love the addeded touch of the chopstick (Asian style, which sort of justified the large amount of corriander I guess)

Hamachi Ceviche $16
~ Coriander, Lime, Avocado, Jalapeno
This was way too vinegary (>_<) and frankly the presentation could have been better

Kampachi Sashimi $14
~ Wild Leeks, Fennel, Avocado, Bread Crumbs, Olive Oil
This was complimentry from the Chef (^_^)
Love the presentation but not sure where was the bread crumbs. I find that they was a bit too much olive oil givinen that the fish was so thinly slice

Nova Scotia Lobster Salad $24
~Avocado, Maple Bacon, Blue Cheese, Buttermilk
This was Amy's app but we share a bit of everything with each other. For a $24 appetizer/dish, I would expect either a large portion of lobster or a better presentation :(And it tasted as bland as it look (>_<)

Cavatelli Pasta $16
~ Truffle-Scented Mushroom Bolognese
Amy order 2 apptizers instead of an app plus an entree, this is a great way to say a bit of money and also if you can't eat that much and want to try more than an entree.
This looks like worms =P But it was delish with teh truffles and teh tougher texture of this pasta.

Beef Brisket Burger $22
We ask for medium-rare and it came as it should be, it was extremely juicy moist and flavourful and love the strong blue cheese that compliment the meat so well. Frankly I came especially to try out this burger since there's all these hype... but let's just say, it's not my favorite although it's really tasty
(similar gourmet burger that I prefered are here and here)

Braised Beef Short Rib $29
~ Corn Truffle, Pickled Red Onions, Queso Anejo, Coriander
This was fall off tehbone good and every element of the dish complimented each other, all you need to do is get a bit of everything in each bite :)

Another complimentry side dish from the chef and this was one of my fave thing of the night =P

Sticky Toffee Pudding $12
~ Pecan Praline, Spotted Dick Ice Cream
The ice cream was way too sweet on top of an already sweet bread pudding and toffee sauce

Dulce de Leche & Coconut fool $12
~ Coconut Praline, Passionfruit Coulis
This was very light and refreshing, I guess the dessert expect (aka Amy) knows best =P

We saved a total of $45.90 with our $10 for 30% Dinning Date Night deal (^_^)

Verdict :
Althought I pass by all the time, I'm not sure I will be back anytime soon.
I was a bit disadppointed with the food and presenattion in general.
