All Tied Up

The weather have been playing game with us recently, one minute it's hot and the other freezing cold... the solution is layering and here's my way of stretching my wardrobe. As you may have notice by now, I'm a big maxi dress/skirt fan and by wearing layering a more neutral shade one with a shirt is perfect for Fall... if it get colder at night, I can easily throw on a crop (shorter length) leather jacket and switch to a pair of booties instead of sandals

I can also have this strapless maxi worn as a skirt then have the shirt buttoned up and tucked in which will then be easier to layer a blazer or jacket on top ;)

Also why not keep wearing the neon pieces from summer and anchoring the look with a heavier necklace instead of the lighter longer summery ones.

Mei Nung Beef Noodle House (美濃刀切牛肉麵館)

I may have pass by this place at First Markham place million of time but have never been due to the pungent smell of stinky tofu... don't get me wrong, I love stinky tofu but when it's in a restaurant/enclose area, the smell will just stick on you the rest of the day which I hate. I finally decided to try Mei Nung Beef Noodle (美濃刀切牛肉麵館) since I was desperate for a good bowl of Taiwanese Beef Noodle and heard that was the place to go.
Homemade Beef & Beef Tendon Noodle Soup ($7.99 Large)
This is probably the best Taiwanese Beef Noodle I had in Toronto; the soup was bold and flavorful, the noodle are homemade and hand cut, beef and tendons moist flavorful melt in your mouth good and the pickled cabbage is finely chopped which awakens your taste bud with it's acidity.

Homemade Beef & Beef Tendon Noodle w/ Fried Bean Sauce ($6.99 Small)
Both of us usually prefer the soup version but for this post sake, we decided to order something different. This one is without sauce instead it's top with a very flavorful fried bean sauce and bean sprouts. This will definitely be better for the hotter summer days since it's not hot as the soup version.

Deep Fried Stinky Tofu ($6.99)
Since my clothes smell of it already, why not eat it as well =P
This is the Taiwanese style stinky tofu where they serve it with pickled cabbage on the side.
(I tend to prefer the Hong Kong version which has a more golden color and top w/plenty of chili and hoisin sauce, see it here). This was quite a large portion compare to the ones we get at the Night Market and the 2 of us could barely finish it after the noodle.

Sansotei Ramen

Finally Toronto is getting more Ramen choices and being a big fan of Kinton (see my post here), I just have to try out their newly open competitor just down the street at 179 Dundas St. W. '
Sansotei Ramen (@SansoteiRamen) recently open in a rather quite fashion, after hearing some friends said it was the best yet and being the ramen fans that we are, we just had to try it out.

It's a rather small space but I have been hearing how their broth is sold out all the time.
We arrive for a late Friday lunch at around 2:30pm and the place was empty (yeah no wait)

Very simple menu

The Harbord Room

Fellow Foodspoting-ers Mike (@chopstickhero), Jing (@jingloh) and me were tweeting how we haven't seen each other for awhile and somehow ended up talking about Burger so we decided to set up a day to visit The Harbord Room (@theharbordroom) which was voted Toronto #1 Best Burger by Toronto Life (see the list here). What started as a 3 person meetup end up being 9 since everyone wanted to join including Mary ( @citrusblack), Grace (@foodinthecityTO), Joe (@jsinb88
and the +1s (too bad Justine @foodigatorJ couldn't make it)

When making reservation, I was told that their biggest table only holds 8 maybe 9 max, so even when people wanted to join later on, it wasn't possible since I had to change the meetup date a couple of time already just to get a reservation. Arriving there, I realize that the place was indeed really small with limited seating and we had the biggest table.

This was back in July and was one of the hottest day of the year and I have to say that it was a tad uncomfortable with barely any AC in there (>_<)

Sangria $14
~ pink wine, fresh strawberry & rhubarb juice, a splash of brandy, a medley of seasonal berries
topped off w/ ginger ale
I was still deciding what drink to order when seeing my check-in, Stella (@foodieyu) tell me that the Sangia is a must try and when the most popular food blogger tell you so, you'll just have to trust her on it (^_^) given that we have such similar taste. I have to say it is really good and refreshing, perfect for teh hottest day of the year. Probably one of teh best Sangria I had ever had.

Confessin' The Blues $12
~ Beefeater Gin, Fresh Lime, Mint Syrup, Cucumber & Blueberry
Joe got this and said it was really good.

St Jacobs Farmers' Market

I just love farmers' market with all the fresh goodies but I always have a problem with waking up early enough on the weekend to actually make it (>_<) A few Saturday ago, I finally manage to wake up extra early to make a mini trip to St Jacobs Farmers' Market in Waterloo; it is Canada's largest year-round farmers' market. It was very packed, I assume it's because I went on a Saturday and also due to the perfect sunny weather.

Other than the Farmers' Market building, there was also a big Outdoor Market and a Flea Market both indoor and out. Surrounding the market, there was also an Antique Market, Outlet Mall and Furniture stores.... You can basically stay for hours, so make sure to bring a cooler if you decide to tackle the market first and that's what we did to ensure we get all the goodies since the Farmers' Market close at 3:30pm earlier than the other building (but remember that prices will likely drop at the end)

First thing first, we look for something to eat first since we were starving after the long drive and we basically bought the first thing we see =P

Grampa's Soft Pretzels
The pretzels are made right in front of you, you can see the lady rolling out the dough and twisting it.
We got the classic Cinnamon Sugar at $3.00, the pretzels was so soft and served hot. So Good!!!

MACDONALD ?!?

This photo was taken beginning summer where I'm still relatively pale.... remember this dress from this post here, that's what I like about dresses where you can layer easily for different seasons.
Here I just cinched ht waist with a black skinny belt and I was ready to go.
Now that summer is ending, I can't wait to think of new ways layering this piece (^_^)

Makkal Chon Korean Restaurant

After reading my favorite Korean foodie aka Justine @foodigatorJ blog post here, I just have to try Makkal Chon out. Unlike most Korean restaurant located on Yonge or Bloor Street, this one is located in Scarbrough at Lawrence and Warden.

Heard from a few other people that it's where a lot of Korean goes to for authentic Korean food, so I am confident that I will like it (^_^)

Side Dishes

Wraps Combo A ($25.99)
~ Basic Vegetable Wraps + Choice of 2 Meat Dishes
~ Choose between Bulgogi, Chicken Teriyaki, Spicy Chicken, Mackerel, Mackerel Pike, Spicy Pork, Grilled Pork and Spick Squid & Pork
~ Purple Rice & Soy Bean Soup (Daen Jang Jji Gae)
We decided on Bulgogi and Spicy Pork

The Wedding Cake Shoppe

I realize that I have never blogged about The Wedding Cake Shoppe but they have my favorite Cupcake in Toronto, at least the ones I have tried so far. I bought their cupcakes a few times and tried most of the flavors but I have to say that I can't really choose a favorite, just love them all. They are just so moist even after a day or two and flavorful yet not sweet at all ♥♥♥
Follow them on twitter @weddingcakeshop for a chance to win #6packfriday every week and that's how I got these (^_^)

Verdict :
My fave cupcake in Toronto so far and I'll definitely be back for more
